Bali Trip Cost 2026: Real Numbers After the New Tourist Levy

Bali's budget math broke into two parallel universes somewhere around 2019, and 2026 finds them further apart than ever. In one universe, a nasi goreng at a family warung costs 2 dollars and a guesthouse with rice-field views 25. In the other, a beach club daybed requires a 100 dollar minimum spend and the smoothie bowl costs what it costs in Los Angeles, because the person ordering it is from Los Angeles.

Both universes share an island, a 9 dollar entry levy, and some of the most gracious hospitality on earth. Budgeting Bali in 2026 means deciding, hour by hour, which universe you are in. Here is the map.

The core numbers

Per person per day, from our calculator:

Budget: 45 to 60 dollars. Guesthouses, warung meals, a rented scooter, temple entries and waterfalls.

Mid-range: 90 to 130. And here sits Bali's crown jewel of value: the private pool villa at 60 to 120 dollars a night. Nowhere else on earth hands ordinary travelers their own pool, gardens and daily housekeeping at three-star money. It remains the single best accommodation deal in world travel.

High-end: 250 to 500 plus, the Ubud jungle resorts and Uluwatu cliff temples of hospitality, priced at half their Maldives equivalents.

Ten days for two, mid-range with villas: 2,000 to 2,600 dollars on the ground. Flights: from the US West Coast 900 to 1,400 round trip, from Europe 700 to 1,100, from Australia a short-haul 400 to 700. The Aviasales calendar rewards flexibility hugely on Denpasar routes; check yours on the trip pages.

Add the entry levy, 150,000 rupiah, about 9 dollars per person, paid online at the official Love Bali portal before landing. Two minutes, one QR code, done; the airport queue version wastes your first vacation hour.

The two economies, itemized

Local economy prices: warung meals 1.50 to 4 dollars. Fresh juice, 1.50. Scooter rental, 5 to 7 a day. Local massage, 8 to 12 an hour. Temple entries, 1 to 4. Surfboard rental on Kuta or Medewi, 5 to 8. A day lived entirely in this economy, lodging aside: 20 to 30 dollars, and it is the more interesting day.

Instagram economy prices: beach club entry or minimum spend, 30 to 100 dollars. Specialty coffee, 4 to 6. Brunch in Canggu, 12 to 20. Imported wine, cruel everywhere in Indonesia at 8 to 15 a glass due to import duty. Yoga class in Ubud, 12 to 18. A day lived entirely here matches Miami.

Neither is wrong; the trap is drifting through the second while budgeting for the first. The couples who come home shocked spent 150 a day on top of their villa without noticing, one flat white and daybed at a time.

Where to base, at what cost

Ubud for rice terraces, temples and the wellness gravity well; villas cheapest here for the quality. Canggu for surf, cafes and the digital-nomad hum, 15 to 25 percent pricier lodging. Uluwatu for cliffs and serious surf. Sanur and Amed for the quiet east, older crowd, best value diving at Amed's 30 to 40 dollar two-tank mornings. Sidemen or Munduk for the Bali of twenty years ago at the prices of fifteen.

Getting around: the scooter at 6 dollars a day is the island's bloodstream, and also its leading tourist injury source. Licenses matter, legally and for insurance validity; our scooter rental guide covers the permit fine print, BikesBooking locks fixed prices with real cancellation, and EKTA covers riding with the right add-on, which matters because a Bali road rash consultation without insurance prices like a beach club weekend. Cars with drivers run 40 to 55 a day for temple circuits, split-friendly. Airport arrivals: pre-book a fixed 15 to 20 dollar transfer through Kiwitaxi and glide past the arrivals-hall negotiation industry.

Data: Airalo's Indonesia eSIM, a few dollars, installed at home, working at baggage claim.

Timing the island

Dry season runs April to October; July, August and the New Year weeks carry peak pricing and Canggu traffic that tests enlightenment. May, June and September deliver identical weather at 20 percent off with half the queue at every waterfall. Rainy season, November to March, discounts villas up to 40 percent, rains in dramatic afternoon bursts rather than write-off days, and turns Ubud impossibly green: the accountant's secret season.

As Indonesia's tourism ministry framed the levy when extending it this year:

The contribution funds the protection of Balinese culture and environment, the very assets visitors come to experience.

Nine dollars toward keeping the island the island is the easiest line in the budget. The harder discipline is the daybed arithmetic, and that one is between you and your feed. Run both Balis through the calculator and pick your ratio; the island accommodates every answer and always has.

Ten days, two Balis, one honest ledger

The split-personality budget as actually lived, two people, villa-based.

Days one to five, Ubud: private pool villa in the rice fields, 78 a night. Scooter, 6 daily. Warung lunches of nasi campur, 6 for two. Campuhan ridge walks and rice terraces, free to 3. The Instagram economy sampled deliberately: two specialty brunches (34), one yoga class each (28), one waterfall circuit day with entries and parking (12). Local massage twice, 40 total. Ubud subtotal with villa: 720.

Days six to ten, Canggu and Uluwatu: villa two rows back from the beach strip, 92 a night. Surf rentals, 25 for the stay. Beach club day, one, chosen well, 80 minimum spend deployed as lunch and daybeds. Warung dinners alternating with two proper restaurants (86 total). Uluwatu temple sunset with kecak dance, 22. Fuel, coffees, coconuts and the tipping of everyone deserving: 60. Subtotal: 900.

The connective tissue: airport transfers pre-booked at 32 total, the entry levy at 18, an eSIM at 9.

Ten-day ground total for two: about 1,680 dollars, villas and one beach-club sin included, landing under the article's band because the local economy carried 70 percent of the hours. The couples who invert that ratio report totals double this with identical photographs.

The Bali decisions that actually move money

The villa-versus-resort fork: at 60 to 120 a night, the private villa is Bali's category-breaking product; the international resort at 250-plus buys brand insurance the island's villa hosts routinely outperform. Book villas on reviews and photos, arrive to flowers on the bed.

The one-beach-club rule: pick a single club day and make it count; the daily-daybed lifestyle is how 60-dollar days become 200. The public beaches host the same sunset free.

The driver-day economics: 45 to 55 dollars hires a car and driver for a full temple-and-waterfall circuit, splitting better than scooter fuel plus parking plus navigation stress for the big-distance days. Scooters keep the neighborhood radius; drivers unlock the island.

The green-season gambit: November to March discounts villas up to 40 percent, rains in dramatic afternoon acts, and photographs greener than the brochures. For budget travelers with flexible dates it is not the compromise season; it is the correct one.

Bali prices itself to your choices more than any destination on this site, which is why the calculator's style settings swing its totals so widely, and why the island remains, played consciously, the best villa-per-dollar deal on earth.
